Genre conventions (content)- Fashion magazines include fashion, beauty and lifestyle tips. They also usually include advice on how stay fit and looking your best.

Genre conventions (production techniques)- These magazines tend to use a lot of editing on photos used in order to portray a sense of perfection. The models used are made to look perfect and are usually what attract people to purchase the magazine.

Magazine sample #1- Elle Magazine includes beauty tips, fashion trends and news on different celebrities. It helps to positively influence women to feel good about themselves. There are also some negative effects that have to do with self esteem.

Magazine sample #2- Vogue includes the latest fashion news, beauty coverage, celebrity style, fashion week updates, culture reviews and also videos. There are many different features in this magazine that help women overcome many issues.

Genre- Health & Fitness

Genre conventions (content)- Magazines under this genre usually include the latest wellness
trends, clean-eating tips, workout videos, fitness challenges, and more. The main goal of the
magazine is to motivate and encourage readers to obtain a healthier lifestyle.

Genre conventions (production techniques)- A popular technique used in fitness magazines
is using fit models or celebrities on the cover or inside in order to capture the reader's attention.
These images may be highly edited as well which could cause the reader to become self
conscious. Depending on the reader's self esteem, these magazines could be incredibly
helpful or could lower a person's confidence.

Institutional conventions – This genre is marketed toward people who want to improve their
health by getting inspiration from professionals. People see the fit models in the magazines
and may be affected positively or negatively.

Magazine sample #1 – Women's and Men's Health Magazine: This magazine includes
countless tips on how to become slim, build muscle or get lean. It helps to motivate you while
also providing great workouts and ways to get strong and stay healthy.

Magazine sample #2 – FitPregnancy: This magazine not only provides the health and work
out tips but caters to women going through a pregnancy as well. It combines the fitness genre
and pregnancy genre.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Annique Zephirin and I am 17 years old and a senior at Cypress Bay
High School. I’m very excited about this new way of communicating my genre research thought process.
This will help me prepare for my final project for my AICE Media Studies AS class. My partner, Maya
Rojas and I are very excited to start our journey on this project. We are interested in Health & Fitness
magazines as well as animal and fashion genres. The preliminary research we do will help us greatly to
decide on which genre of magazine we would like to focus on for our final project. I hope you enjoy
following me on this experience while learning new things at the same time!
